As the slowest of all Vihtavuori’s high-energy powders, N570 is built with a large grain size and high bulk density specifically to bring out maximum velocities in cartridges with very large case volumes — including 6.5-.284 Norma, .300 Winchester Magnum, .300 Remington Ultra Magnum, and .338 Lapua Magnum. Part of the N500 series of impregnated extruded rifle powders, N570 has nitroglycerol added as an extra energy component, making it a strong alternative to the N100 series whenever higher loading densities and more energy are needed. It’s mainly used in long-range target shooting and military applications with big-volume cartridges, where consistency at extreme distances matters more than almost anything else.

Because N570 has an unusually large kernel size — 2.3mm length by 1.3mm diameter, similar to 24N41 and 20N29 — Vihtavuori specifically recommends weighing each charge rather than relying on a powder measure’s throw, since measures don’t always deliver fully consistent charges with grains this large. Taking the extra time to weigh charges helps avoid under- or over-charging cases, which matters even more given how much energy this powder carries.
